VICI Enterprises big on Miclik, ShapeMaker at Toy Fair

New York-based design toy distributor VICI Enterprises was particularly proud of its Miclik construction set at last month's Toy Fair.

Designed in Spain by Mitoi and manufactured in Vietnam, Miclik, noted Vici president Deepa Dadlani, is made of same-sized colored (blue, red/pink, green and yellow) pieces that snap together and fold in any direction in building practically anything imaginable (buildings, flowers, animals, vehicles, garments, etc.).

"They're more dynamic than LEGOs, which are static," said Dadlani, pointing to another VICI offering in ShapeMaker, from the English open-ended play toy designer Miller Goodman--actually that company's first toy, and winner of the gold award at the 2009 Practical Pre-School awards.

Now also available in a smaller Mini ShapeMaker version, Original Shapemaker is a set of 25 colorful hand-printed blocks made out of sustainable rubber wood that can be arranged to form countless objects and images in and out of the box. Likewise, Miller Goodman has both Original and Mini FaceMaker sets that can create faces.

"As curator of VICI product, design and engineering are really important to me—and that there's both left and right brain appeal," said Dadlani, adding that she also looks for "aesthetic appeal that offers fun and functionality."
