The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its nominees for induction at its 50th Annual Induction & Awards Gala, to be held June 13, 2019 in New York.
Once again, there are two slates of 12 nominees, one representing Songwriters, the other Performing Songwriters.
Nominated in the Songwriters category are the team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Dallas Austin, the team of the late Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, the team of L. Russell Brown and the late Irwin Levine, Dean Dillon, Jerry Fuller, Tom T. Hall, Roger Nichols, the team of Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, the team of Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore, the team of the late P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, and Jack Tempchin.
In the Performing Songwriters category, the nominees are: Mariah Carey, Jimmy Cliff, Missy Elliott, Vince Gill, Chrissie Hynde, Tommy James, the team of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, Mike Love, Jeff Lynne, Lloyd Price, John Prine, and Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam).
Established in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create music around the world. To qualify for induction, a songwriter must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalog of hit songs.
Eligible voting members have until midnight on December 17, 2018 to turn in ballots with their choices of three nominees from both Songwriter and Performing Songwriter categories. Bios and photos of the 2019 nominees can be found on the songhall.org website.
